INDIVIDUAL SPEECH TEAM RULES

1.  Follow all the school rules as found in the Central Community School student handbook;  be especially aware of the rules governing absences, grades, and drugs and alcohol.  You must be in in school by 10 am to practice that night.    Exceptions: doctor appointment, ortho, and dentist, etc.

2.  You will not be allowed to withdraw from a contest entry without Mrs. Yanda’s permission. If a withdrawal is made after registration is submitted, the student is responsible for that payment.

3.  Two unexcused absences from rehearsals will result in a “drop” from the contest. You will be expected to reimburse the school for payment of your contest entry fee.  Mrs. Yanda will judge excuses.  Acceptable excuses include student injury or illness, and emergencies such as death or serious illness in the family.  The student is responsible for avoiding schedule conflicts with other extra-curricular activities.

4.  In the event that more students sign up for a category than are allowed to go to contest, try-outs may be held. Sometimes similar events can be entered or second choices can be granted. Priority goes to veteran speech students.

5.  Any repetition of an action that received verbal or written reprimand from Mrs. Yanda could be cause for suspension from the next speech contest or from the program for the rest of the year.  This disciplinary action is up to the discretion of Mrs. Yanda.

6.  No television, video games, recorders or radios are allowed at contests unless they are used with headphones.  No frisbees or balls are allowed at the contest. These rules come from the state organization, and Central will enforce it.  Anyone bringing any personal equipment does so at his/her own risk.

7.  Students should practice 20 minutes twice a week.  If you are unable to make it to practice, please let Mrs. Yanda know in advance so we can reschedule.
